MEND EMS: Stroke Assessment Tool for EMS Personnel
MEND EMS is a specialized application designed to assist healthcare providers, particularly EMS personnel, in quickly identifying stroke patients. Developed by a team of medical professionals, this tool integrates components from the Cincinnati Prehospital Stroke Scale (CPSS) and the NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) to provide a comprehensive neurologic assessment.
The application is structured into tabs guiding users through patient history, CPSS evaluation, MEND examination, management considerations, and an ED report. It prompts users to start a new patient assessment or continue with existing data. MEND EMS aims to enhance stroke severity assessment, aid in effective communication with hospitals, and improve patient care continuity from the scene to admission. EMS personnel are advised to conduct CPSS initially and proceed with the detailed MEND exam during transport to optimize time efficiency.
